OUR CRITERIA FOR PROGRAM
ADMISSION:
Our program admits men who have
been referred by substance abuse detox programs locally. We are
willing, given the circumstances, to consider self referral. We
require that a person has abstained from drugs and alcohol at least
14 days before being admitted. We also require that a person is
willing to enter into a contract at the time of admission.
OUR PROCESS:
We divide our program into three phases:
1.
New Life Adjustment:
(6 months) This phase begins
the first day a person is introduced to us and agrees he wants to
change his life by changing his mind. We ask the participant to
enter into a contract with us committing to himself, his family
and God to learn and employ a new way to share his time here on
earth. The first three months is committed to adjusting to a new
routine, learning to live with others in a healthy relaxed
atmosphere, modeling responsibility by completing assigned tasks,
all done without the use of drugs or alcohol. The clients are
also asked to begin the process of assuming responsibility for
them by finding part time work in the community. The participant
will attend church, individual and group counseling, NA/AA
meetings as appropriate on a daily basis. By the second three
months, the participant’s personal life style adjustment training
plan is developed and implemented. The lifestyle plan includes
all necessary assessments and tests. The participant begins
attending classes that teach effective ways to manage Basic People
Skills, including Conflict Resolution, Anger Management,
Dissolving Stressful Situations, Forgiveness, Self Discovery Life
Appreciation, Appreciation of Self and Others, and Substance Abuse
101, a class focused on the effects of drugs and alcohol on one
life and world affairs is also offered and required for all
participants. Required classes also include Relaxation, Healthy
Diet and Physical Activity Programs.
2. Healthy Life Realignment:
(6 months) This phase marks
the period that the participant begins to implement new behaviors
he has learned into his everyday life by showing success in making
choices and focusing on becoming self sufficient. While the
participant continues church, individual and group therapy on a
bi-weekly basis, his class curricula moves to vocational courses,
including GED, Trade Skills, such as carpentry, painting, home
improvements, and basic business skills. The participant also
begins to fine tune his job seeking skills developing a resume,
choosing a career path as opposed to just a job. The participant
is expected, during this phase to begin seeking employment. Also
during this phase the participants will learn money management,
and healthy spending attitudes. Once employed, the participant is
expected to save no less than 50% of his earnings while a member
of our program.
3. New Life Implementation:
(6 months) The last phase of
our program involves reintegrating the participant’s family
members and loved ones back into his life as healthy support
systems. The participant begins to include this system into his
life by inviting them to join him in family, couple therapy, and
or relationship therapy as appropriate. Psycho education classes
are also offered for family members. By this phase the
participant is working full time, attending individual and group
therapy once a week. He also has an active savings account and is
preparing to become self sufficient by seeking and finding
permanent housing. The participant will continue individual and
group therapy weekly or bi-weekly as appropriate. He will also
attend church services as required. Once the participant has
worked for at least 6 months, has saved a reasonable amount of
money, has secured housing and is reunited with his family and
loved ones, he has met his goals and our criteria for program
completion. His final program stipulation is the joyous
celebration that is given in his honor and in that of his family.
While our program officially ends
with completion of the 18-month participation and celebration, our
staff continues to connect with the member monitoring progress and
reminding him and his family of the love and support that is always
available to them monthly for up to 3 years. Client is welcome to
come back and participate in classes as they need to.
“And
now abideth Faith, Hope and Love, but the GREATEST of these is
LOVE.”
